Around the World Running Blog Relay 2014

Over the last few months I have found I have been engaging more and more with some of my fellow bloggers who I read daily posts from. Since some of them have said “Follow Me” on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook I have and can engage with them there as well. That isn’t me being creepy because they have asked me to follow them. I have started to really enjoy this interaction and feel that I am forming friendships all over the world and some even in my home town. I have even found that when I speak with Warren about some of the blogs that I have been reading I will say the name of the blog as if it is the person’s name in my story. It is kind of funny but he is starting to know who I am talking about which I like. A week or so ago he said to me “Your blog is like the modern-day pen pal.” So, true and I love it.

So, that brings me to what inspired me for this post.

Today I read a post by TartanJogger who lives in Tarbert, Argyll. In June and July 2014 there is the GB Relay that has been nicknamed “The People’s Relay”. In the relay runners carry a baton with GPS in it as they go along the coast of Britain. They are hoping to record over 7000 kilometers in 594 stages to break a Guinness World Record and beat these current records. TartanJogger and @thewelshwookie will be running in stage 138.

I mentioned in a comment to TartanJogger’s that I thought it would be neat to have a relay with bloggers who run and she liked the idea as well. We could gather all of the running bloggers together and keep track of how many kilometers we all ran each week. I am thinking March and April would be the two best months to do this because there is usually a race in May that people are training for. That way the relay could just be part of our training for whatever run is coming up.

I think it would be neat to see if we could set a “record” of the most kilometers ran through blogs around the world. Not sure if this has even been attempted before but there is a first time for everything.

What do you think? Would you be interested in taking part of the Around the Word Running Blog Relay? Let me know by commenting on my post and I will get things started for March 2014.  #ATWRBR2014

      2. Thanks to you both. TheImprobableRunner is talking about raising money for a charity. That is a cool idea. We will chat after you get back.

        Sorry for your loss. Hugs.

      1. I’ve just done a virtual with a facebook group and we made around $2000 for charity and got a fair bit of swag donated. We didn’t get a medal but got a wicker wear t shirt for the entry fee, which was about $15 (Not sure what that is in real money lol). There is an app called charity miles where they basically pay you to run as well.

      2. Thanks for the tips. This sounds like a good idea. I will check into the app and see what else we can do. I love the thought of raising money for a charity.

        Thanks for your help.

  2. Amazing idea!! I’m in!
I also talk to my bf about bloggers that I now follow on instagram & twitter. The running community (also bloggers who aren’t into running) is so supportive and it’s been great getting to know everyone.

    1. Hi Haley,

Yes, all of the bloggers we follow are supportive in many ways and I love it. Happy to hear I am not the only one who talks about them. 🙂
Happy to have you on board.

    1. Thanks Adam. I am happy you like the idea. I was thinking the same thing about it being good for motivation for even just myself if no one signed up.

I have set a challenge for myself this month to run 155km or 5km/day and I was inspired by TartanJogger’s post http://tartanjogger.com/2013/11/26/potm-confession-time/. It has helped me stay committed this month which is good because December can be a hard month to stay focused with everything going on.

Look forward to reading your posts. Thanks for stopping by.

      Have a good day.

I am happy I thought of this idea sooner rather than later now so I have time to get things organized.

    1. Great. Thanks Jacklyn. Happy you will be running with us. It will start March 1st and go until the last day of April. I would like to track everyone’s mileage for the weeks and do a recap as we go along. More details still to be figured out but will get the info out after the holiday’s.

    1. Great. Thanks Melanie.
My sister lives in Australia near Sydney. She could have lived near or in Adelaide at one point because that sounds familiar to me.

Look forward to running with you.

  5. I’m always up for some running challenges that connect me with other runners – and keep me moving. My big race is in March, but I’ve got one in May too, so I’ll definitely need the push to get back into a program! Count Kentucky in! 😀
